Amarna, Then and Now.
My guest today is Dr. Chris Naunton. Chris is the former head of the Egypt Exploration Society and the International Association of Egyptologists. With decades of work behind him, he is an enthusiastic and engaging scholar with a particular talent for outreach and communication. Dr. Naunton sat down to discuss the city of Amarna, its exploration, and the evidence that helps us connect with its ancient, famous people.

Nice talk. Thank you!
Liked your talk very much, thank you.
A really fascinating period.
I loved the part about jumping on a time machine and going to meet Akhnaten in person. I have also been wondering all the time since seeing the Akhnaten opera by Philip Glass back in 2020 – what kind of a person was he. How much of what he was doing was the result of sheer power-oriented propanda and public image staff, and how much came from his inner strong beliefs. Or maybe and idea of a mission…
And another point – ever since I’ve s, een the richness of Egyptian mummy specimen in the museum in Kairo as a child and getting learning about Tunankhamon – it has alway been my wish and a recurring thought – to put him in a time machine and bring him to our times. How would he see our world?
Once again a big thank you!
Ivonna
Continuing on the intellectual game of going to meet Akhnaten – we would have to be careful not to choose a time too close to the great tribute ceremony – otherwise we would jump from one pandemic to another : )
